Hi Friends and Family,
Mark and the other members of the LDS Humanitarian Aid team (about 8 doctors and nurses) just arrived in Ft. Lauderdale. The team includes Family Practic docs, nurses, and trauma surgeons. They will board a charter jet to Haiti in about an hour. There is a specific window of time for them to fly into Haiti so we are hoping that there will not be any cancellations or obstacles. Each team member has a carryon of personal belongings and 4 suitcases/boxes per person in addition. They are hoping the smaller charter plane can take all of these supplies. Mark had an opportunity to help gather supplies and pack the 20 duffel bags of medical supplies during the last 2 days he has spent in Utah. He and others were able to also get thousands of dollars of supplies and medications during the last two days. Institutions have been incredibly generous. I believe LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City gave them $15,000 worth of supplies to take. The church has also chartered a plane with 80,000 pounds of supplies. I don't know if it has arrived yet. He said that the team is a great bunch of people. He has really enjoyed getting to know them on the flight from SLC to Ft. Lauderdale.

I will keep you posted on their arrival in Haiti. Mark shared that they will be setting up their clinic in an LDS church (stake center) in Haiti which was not badly damaged.
Please keep this team and all the rescue workers in your prayers and thoughts. We so appreciate Dixi Hall and Judy Norman in SLC who hosted Mark during his time there and drove him all over collecting these items.
For Mark, this basically started on Wednesday night when he sent an email expressing interest in going to help in Haiti. The LDS church was just putting together the team of medical personnel to offer aid and so he was fortunate to be included in that group and flew to Utah the next day. We are so appreciative of his medical partners at Corvallis Family Medicine who are taking his call and seeing his patients.

I wish I would have thought to watch the news tonight. At least it seems most of it was posted online...
