So here's the latest. Mark just called. Plane to Haiti delayed until tomorrow so they were all put up at the Marriott in Ft. Lauderdale. They head out tomorrow afternoon. This is such a crazy experience for Mark. He's chomping at the bit to get there. He said that one of the big things they will be facing is infection now.One of the leaders of the LDS Humanitarian Aid is with them and told the team that there ae 4000 displaced people camping out on the grounds of the church where they will set up the clinic. I guess the people aren't neccessarily injured, just homeless.
Right now, there is no power at the church in Haiti. They are trying to get diesel fuel from the DR into Haiti to get the generators working.
One of the docs ono the team, Jeff Randle, is the head of a non-profit rehab clinic called Helping Hands for Haiti and he has a dormlike guest house with 50 beds but much of his clinic was destroyed so they aren't sure where they will be staying. 20 of the 50 employees at this clinic are also missing.
Mark also thinks that the two cargo planes with pallets of supplies made it- one to the DR for ground transportation to Haiti and one to Port au Prince. They will use the church also as a site to distribute this aid.
On another note, my cousin's daughter, Jill Wilkins and her husband, Joe, were on Larry King's CNN tonight. They have been trying for awhile to adopt this little boy out of an orphanage in Haiti. (Reminds me of the Leishmans) They found out that he is OK and unharmed. Here's their blog: http://wilkinsadoption.blogspot.com Lots of people and places to keep in our prayers.
I won't write anymore until Mark and the team are in Haiti. I can't keep up with all the delays. It's too crazy. Flexibility is the name of the game. It's just so hard to think that additional Haitian people in need could be getting medical help if this plane could just get there.
